Call my name

Do you remember the movie the Never Ending Story? There is a scene at the end with the main character, Bastian, and the Empress that goes as follows:

The Childlike Empress: Bastian. Why don’t you do what you dream, Bastian?
Bastian: But I can’t, I have to keep my feet on the ground!
The Childlike Empress: Call my name. Bastian, please! Save us!
Bastian: All right! I’ll do it! I’ll save you! I will do what I dream!

Back in November I mentioned how I was moving forward with setting up my freelance business. My first step was finding a name. It’s tough to give your creation a name. Heck, the Hubs and I have had a hard time naming our children. We do have a name for the upcoming addition. Don’t worry.

For lil’ man we went back and forth for months before we decided on his name. The power of veto was invoked several times.

Back to the latest creation…have you ever heard of a hedge apple? If you are from the South, you definitely have. They are everywhere, it seems. They are those green, bumpy ball-things that fall from the trees.They just lay on the ground and either get eaten by deers, squirrels and raccoons or get all mushy and gross and kind of smelly. I am definitely not talking about the ones that stay on the ground for too long.

See for my company, I wanted a shabby chic/southern hospitality feel. I went with hedge apple because growing up those were always in our yard and my dad hated them but my mom would collect them and spray paint them for decorations…making something decorative out of this ugly brain looking thing. They are also all over our backyard, and lil’ man and I go around and kick them in the ditch.

So I present to you….drum roll….Hedge Apple Design and Events.

Wooo…it’s out there now. I’ve been a little nervous about releasing this out there, but I know to realize my dreams, I have to make that leap. No, not a full on dive into freezing cold water, quitting my job and going full throttle. This is a walking down the steps into the pool kind of move. And I’m up to my shins now.

Still lots to do, but as I focus on getting out there and meeting people, making connections, building a website, building a social media following, and gaining clients, keep me in mind. I’m your gal for all your design and event planning needs because I’m going to get out there and do what I dream.
