Weighing in again

Jan 27

It seems I’ve been slacking on my updates for the whole weight loss and working out bit. Don’t worry, I have not fallen off the wagon. My path to my goal weight continues.

On December 4, I wrote about finishing the Jingle Bell Run. Since then I’ve run a few times, but with the cold, wet weather it makes it a little hard to get motivated. Yes, there is a gym at work, but am I the only one that finds running on a treadmill quite boring? Maybe in the next few weeks I’ll get motivated again.

Just because I’m not running doesn’t mean I’m not getting some good workouts in. My last round of BodyBack ended before Christmas, and there was improvement on the numbers yet again, which makes me feel good. Since then I’ve been doing small things to stay in shape. At work I take the stairs and walk whenever I can get away from my desk. I also do squats whenever I’m just standing around the house…while cooking, while feeding lil’ man, in the shower, etc. Sneaking in other exercises during these times is also something I strive for. I’m sure the Hubs thinks I’m crazy doing push-ups and sit-ups while watching tv, but whatever works.

In the next few weeks I plan on really getting into this new workout program I’ve been reading about…NerdFitness. I’ve done the recruit workout a couple times, but I need to get in a routine of doing them more.

But what really has changed around here is the eating. I’ve read that losing weight and maintaining weight is 80% what you eat. So while I wasn’t eating horribly before, I’ve changed up the menu in the past month. Like a caveman I eat only meat, veggies, fruit, nuts and seeds. That’s it. No grains, no sugar, none of the stuff that has been developed through the years as people stopped being hunters and gatherers and started farming. Yeah, it might sound crazy. You might be thinking, “Lady, why would you not take advantage of the developments in food throughout the years?” If you read any of the books about the paleo diet, you’ll learn that we really aren’t meant to eat those. Our innards haven’t evolved that much to handle all that stuff. So to be a better working human machine, I’m cutting it all out.

For almost three weeks now, I’ve been following the paleo diet, and I’m feeling pretty good. Besides the constant peeing from all the water I drink, I sleep better, am more awake and alert and losing weight. While, some of my new adventures in cooking might have come up a bit lacking, I’m getting the hang of it.

So that’s really the update from here.

Weight loss update:
Up one pound over the holidays and down 12 for a grand total of 228.
